Helena Bonham Carter is "chuffed" with her replacement on 'The Crown'

From Harper's BAZAAR

Helena Bonham Carter says that she is "chuffed" to be handing over the role of Princess Margaret to Lesley Manville, who will play the character in seasons five and six of The Crown. The actress – who initially took over from Vanessa Kirby, who played a younger Princess Margaret – has been playing the role for two seasons.

"It’s like handing a baton, it’s like this race that we’re all running, and Vanessa Kirby was incredibly enthusiastic and kind and generous and gave me lots of tips," Bonham Carter told the Radio Times. "I said, help how do I do this! Because you can get a bit overwhelmed by all the research. And you know it’s conspicuous, you know people are going to watch it, which is a great gift."

Having already wrapped filming for season four, Bonham Carter is now ready to symbolically hand over the reigns to Manville, but also plans to give her one of Margaret's most important props.

"Lesley, I feel like I should hand her the cigarette holder that I used, as a baton. Over to you, woman. She’s going to have a great time with her [Margaret], and I’m so chuffed it’s her, and she’s a great actress, and she’ll have great fun."

It was recently announced that there would be two more seasons of The Crown, which will see Imelda Staunton take over the part of Queen Elizabeth, a character currently played by Olivia Colman, and previously played by Claire Foy. The fourth season of the show is expected to air at the end of this year.
