Helen Mirren brought along an unexpected young guest to the LA premiere of her new film, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods.

The actor, 77, walked the red carpet with her step-grandson Basil as her plus one.

Mirren held hands with Basil as they walked along the red carpet at the premiere, along with the rest of the Shazam! cast which included Zachary Levi and Lucy Liu.

For the event, Mirren wore her long hair loose with a black headband, and a black long-sleeved lace dress for the event.

Young Basil wore a denim button up shirt, dark jeans and black sneakers.

It is thought that Basil is the son of Alexander Hackford, Mirren’s stepson. Since marrying director Taylor Hackford in 1997, she became stepmum to two sons.

However, her eldest stepson, Rio Hackford, died aged 51 in April 2022 of uveal melanoma, an aggressive and rare form of cancer.

In a statement made to People magazine at the time, Mirren and her husband said they “are both inspired by the life of our son and stepson, Rio Hackford, and heartbroken by his loss.

“His life showed us how to live in generosity and community. He shared his life's journey with so many who now mourn him, and at the same time, celebrate their fortune in knowing him.”

Mirren’s red carpet appearance comes after she recently shared some words of wisdom on what it’s like to be a role model for women of a certain age.

“Life doesn’t stop [after 60] and creativity doesn’t stop,” The Queen actor told ITV’s Lorraine. “Passion doesn’t stop, and energy doesn’t stop, unless you decide to stop it. [You just need] to be self-motivated really and to never give up. And find enjoyment, if it is possible, in your life.

“As you get older, you understand the struggles that people go through – either physical struggles or financial struggles. And life is tough, very tough and very demanding. And therefore all the more reason to maintain your energy as far as you can and your health as far as you can.”
