I’m the middle of five children, but the only one in two generations (on my father’s side) who has curly hair. My mother, god bless her, had no history of it in her family. So, she was suddenly tasked with dealing with a hair type she knew nothing about. She did her research, though, talking to hairstylists, the beauty counter girls at Bloomingdale's, and friends—and found out that leave-in conditioners were the solution to caring for curly hair. It’s been 25 years since her discovery, and leave-in conditioners are (besides shampoo) the only consistent part of my hair care routine.

My sisters (one with pin-straight hair, and the other with loose waves) and I equally love this product, which we discovered at Walgreens a decade (or more) ago. The texture is a combination of a gel, cream, and oil, and it feels like liquid silk. The impressive part, however, is the effect—all of us experience frizz-free hair, extreme shine, and stronger strands.
