Harry Potter cast will reunite at Hogwarts to mark 20th anniversary

Harry Potter stars Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint will reunite to share their magical experiences of making the beloved movie franchise some two decades ago.

The original Hogwarts trio will team up with director Chris Columbus for an HBO Max retrospective special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the adaptation of JK Rowling's first book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will air in the US on New Year's day (January 1st), and we're hoping it will air in the UK on NOW TV and Sky around the same time. We'll keep you updated. According to HBO Max, the special feature will 'tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new, in-depth interviews and cast conversations.'

Emma, Daniel and Rupert will be joined for the reunion by co-stars Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Ian Hart.

'It has been an incredible journey since the debut of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone film, and witnessing how it has evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least,' Tom Ascheim, president of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics, said in a statement.

'This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon — from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.'

Emma paid tribute to the film's 20th anniversary – which fell on Tuesday, 16 November – by sharing a photo of herself, Daniel and Rupert taken on set 20 years ago accompanied by an emotional post on Instagram.

'Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world and Hermione (still is) my favourite fictional character of all time,' the actress and activist wrote. 'I think a journalist once said it was irritating how many times during an interview I mentioned how lucky I was and started counting… BUT I DAMN WELL KNEW!!! And still know.'

She added: 'Happy 20th Anniversary Potterheads! We hope you enjoy the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts which will stream New Year’s day, Jan. 1 on HBO Max. ⚡️ Lots to look forward to.'
