Adam Sandler has recreated a memorable moment from Happy Gilmore to mark the film’s 25th anniversary.

The actor and comedian filmed himself taking a swing at a golf ball in a tribute to his character, rage-driven golf savant Happy Gilmore, from the beloved 1996 comedy film.

“OK, it’s been 25 years since I’ve done this,” Sandler says at the start of the video. “Let’s see what happens.”

“Shooter McGavin, this is for you,” he says, before teeing off, referring to Christopher McDonald’s snide Happy Gilmore villain.

After connecting with the ball in Happy’s trademark style, Sandler says: “I’m not lying to you, that is smashed. Smashed. That went pretty well. You’re dead, Shooter.”

McDonald filmed his own response to Sandler’s video, in the guise of Shooter McGavin, which he shared on social media.

“Nice drive, Gilmore,” he says at the start of the clip. “25 years, huh? Let’s see if it’s Shooter’s tour.”

McDonald then neatly hits a golf ball into a glass placed on the floor.

“Thank you to all the fans and thank you to you, Adam Sandler,” he added. “Why don’t you just meet me at the ninth green at 9? Oh, and Gilmore – wear something nice.”

Happy Gilmore can be watched in the UK on Netflix, Sky Go and Now TV.
