Send a little festive cheer to loved ones this year with a handprint Christmas card, created by your little ones.

Handprint Christmas cards make for a thoughtful addition to the mantelpiece and are a perfect keepsake, especially for grandparents who will treasure their artwork for years to come! In fact, you could even frame a bigger print and gift it as a Christmas present. Plus, the kids will love getting messy making their own designs.

Handprints can be turned so many different designs from Father Christmas to a Christmas tree, or even a Christmas wreath. Fingerprints can be created to make snowmen too, with plenty of fun and creative ideas available on Pinterest. The only limit to your designs is your imagination!

Requiring minimal preparation, it's simple and easy for children to make, and is a great craft to try out with younger kids. Just make sure to do any cutting out before your crafting session, so they can safely get on with designing their card. We've even got Christmas card message ideas to inspire you!

All you need is some card, acrylic paint and a little imagination to make painted handprint cards, or for an even quicker and easer method, draw around a hand shape and cut it out. It's less messy and you won't need to wait for them to dry. You could even prep multiple hand shapes in advance for a cutting, sticking and decorating session with the kids.

If your kids are using paints, remember to cover any areas you want to keep paint-free, and grab those aprons!

You can also embellish your design with pens, stickers and collage materials like gems and buttons – it's so much fun!

And of course you'll need an envelope to send your card in so check out our tutorial on how to make an envelope.
