If you thought Halle Berry was all about red carpet glamour, glossy hair and perfect skin, think again.

The 55-year-old actor looks worlds away from her usual self in a trailer for her upcoming film, Bruised.

For the film, Berry underwent a serious make-under to play Jackie Justice, a down-and-out mixed martial arts fighter. In the trailer we see her character without make-up, wearing tattered clothes and, in one scene, is pictured with a black eye.

The sports drama is set to be released on Netflix on November 24 2021, and also marks Berry's directorial debut. The film also stars Adam Canto, Adriane Lenox, Sheila Atim, Valentina Shevchenko, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

In the film, Justice falls on hard times, but stages an incredible comeback - in and out of the ring - when her estranged six-year-old son returns to her life following the death of his father.

The trailer gives us a peek of Berry's insanely defined abs and commendable skills, which are the product of years of boxing training.

The actor explained last year that prepping for Bruised, which she did with the help of fight choreographers from John Wick, had taken her figure to a whole new level.

'I had to look (and perform) like a professional MMA fighter, so, in addition to practicing MMA for four hours every day, I was also doing about 45 minutes of general strength training and 15 minutes of work just on my abs,' she wrote in an essay for Women's Health.

'We threw the kitchen sink at my core and, let me tell you, it took serious dedication.'

Berry is so far the only black woman to win the Oscar for Best Actress - and we think there's every chance that with Bruised, she could be the first black woman to win the Oscar for Best Director, too.
