Hailey Bieber Opens Up About Living with Perioral Dermatitis After ‘Pretty Bad Flare Up’
The model detailed the condition in a TikTok, describing it as something she’s had since she was 19 or 20
Hailey Bieber is getting candid about a skin condition that she knows “a lot of other people” struggle with, too.
The Rhode founder, 27, shared a TikTok this week where she described her experience with perioral dermatitis, a condition that she described as “resembling acne or rosacea” that often involves “tiny red bumps that form on the lower half of the face” in areas around the nose and mouth.
“This is something that I have had since I was about 19 or 20,” Bieber said in her video. “And I know a lot of other people deal with it and struggle with it as well. I'm having a pretty bad flare up right now so I wanted to share what I use when I'm having a flare up.”
The Cleveland Clinic reports that those who are most likely to have the condition (which is listed as “common” with “effective treatments”) are woman between 25 and 45 “who uses topical steroids, face creams and more.” The American Academy of Dermatology Association notes that the rash caused by the condition can come with a “burning sensation.”

In the minute-long clip, Bieber gave fans a look at her skin, specifically the red spots that have formed. Detailing what she uses during a flare up, Bieber told fans that she sticks to a prescription Azelaic Acid cream, which she said “really helps” with her inflammation.
“And in the day time, I use something called Clindamycin, which is also a prescription you can get from a dermatologist,” she said, noting that the antibiotic helps “stop the growth of bacteria on the skin.”
As Bieber explained, she also uses her own brand's Glazing milk, which she said is “super gentle” and helps “calm the skin,” as well as SPF during the daytime.
The model then showed off how her skin looked the following morning, noting that it looked “a lot less irritated.”

"Perioral Dermatitis! Lets talk about it," Bieber captioned her clip, which received positive feedback from her followers, who thanked her for “opening up.”
“This is what I love about her she doesn’t just say she uses Rhode most celebrities just rub their brand in our face,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “it's so weird to see someone like Hailey Bieber also using clindamycin. nobody talks about it but its a life changer.”

As reported by Byrdie, Bieber previously detailed her experience with the condition in 2022, when she posted an Instagram Story and revealed that she's had it “for a few years.” Bieber wrote at the time that she wanted to be “as transparent as possible about my skin.”
“It gets triggered by different things and usually shows up on my cheeks, around my mouth or sometimes around and under my eyes,” she wrote. “Some things I noticed trigger it: trying a new product, a product that's too harsh, weather, masks, sometimes certain SPF.”
Bieber has been transparent about other health struggles in the past, including opening up about a mini stroke she suffered in 2022, which led to the discovery of her heart condition, patent foramen ovale.
