In an era where working from home is now the norm, the idea of wearing a suit might seem a little incongruous. Not to H&M, nor chic Italian label Giuliva Heritage who have collaborated to create a tailoring collection to prove that beautifully cut suit jackets, trousers and shirts shouldn't be hidden away in offices.

"Tailoring is not just about dressing to work from the office," says Gerardo Cavaliere, one half of the husband-wife design duo. "It’s not a work uniform, but it is an expression of your own personality. Getting dressed is about yourself, your social and cultural points of view. You don’t need to go somewhere to dress up, you should dress to satisfy yourself no matter what your schedule is."

Cavaliere and his wife, Margherita Cardelli, launched their brand three years ago, after recognising a gap in the market that expertly cut tailoring wasn't readily available in the ready-to-wear arena. The label launched first with a capsule range for Net-a-Porter in 2017, and have seen a surge in popularity ever since.

Their collections are handmade by skilled craftsman in Italy, creating timeless versatile forever pieces that shoppers will return to time and time again.

"We encourage people to invest in better pieces that will last a long time and to only buy things you truly love that you can pass down through generations," says Cardelli. "It's why we, as Giuliva Heritage, launched a lifetime guarantee policy on our mainline collections - if any piece needs mending, we'll repair any item free of charge, forever."

The couple applied the same commitment to clothes that last in their H&M collection. Using recycled materials throughout, the sustainable line features double-breasted jackets in shades of camel, white and navy, along with high-waisted trousers, beautifully cut coats and sharp shirting. It's a very borrowed-from-the-boys approach, but cut for women's bodies.

"The biggest challenge has been matching the right fabric weight to every piece in order to give the best fit," says Cavaliere. "But we loved the idea of our designs being affordable. We put two completely different realities on the table and found a common vision, while sharing innovation and the most famous tailoring traditions. It's resulted in a very special collection of timeless and affordable designs."

The H&M x Giuliva Heritage collection launches online and in stores on 3 September.
