Gwyneth Paltrow just re-created a famous Gucci moment
Decades after she first put red velvet suits on our radar, Gwyneth Paltrow re-wore Gucci's memorable red velvet suit to attend the Gucci Love Parade, a fashion extravaganza held in Los Angeles.
The Goop mogul first wore the suit, designed by Tom Ford for Gucci's autumn/winter 1996 collection, on the red carpet at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. Though, this time around, Paltrow wore an iteration of the suit by the brand's current creative director, Alessandro Michele.
"Gucci becomes for me a hacking lab, made of incursions and metamorphoses," Michele said in a statement earlier this year when he first released the interpretation of Ford's iconic suit, among other re-creations, to celebrate the house's 100th anniversary. "An alchemical factory of contaminations where everything connects to anything."
Similar to her 1996 red-carpet look, Paltrow again styled the suit with a pale-blue button-down and bright-red heels, and wore her hair pinned into a low bun.
"Gucci's long history can't be contained within a single inaugural act," Michele said. "As any other existence, its destiny is marked by a long series of 'endless births' [in the words of Spanish philosopher Maria Zambrano] and constant regenerations."
The brand's fashion show testified to the enduring power of the Italian brand. Gucci shut down Hollywood Boulevard, using the Walk of Fame as a catwalk for models who streamed past famed L.A. institutions like the El Capitan Theatre. Other stars in attendance included Dakota Johnson, Lizzo, and Billie Eilish.
