Who Was the Green Goblin at the 2023 Emmy Awards Red Carpet?

Glamorous gowns and expensive jewelry are par for the course on the red carpet. Fantastical creatures? Not so much.

On Monday night, a former “RuPaul’s Drag Race” contestant went viral at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, dressing as a green goblin complete with warts and other lifelike prosthetics. The drag queen in question, Princess Poppy, appeared on the show’s 15th season.

Princess Poppy’s whimsical ensemble included a strapless green and gold gown dreamed up by Australian costume designer Bryn Meredith. She accessorized with an embellished cubical bag and puffy lime green mules. Kyle Bowers crafted the drag queen’s glittery jewels, including a necklace adorned with a “PP” initial pendant.

Princess Poppy previously announced her retirement from drag at RuPaul’s DragCon Los Angeles in 2023. “I now know that drag is no longer the career path that I want to do,” the performer told Out. “I just genuinely think that I reached my peak.”

Several contestants from season 15 including winner Sasha Colby, Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, Robin Fierce, Luxx Noir London, Jax and Marcia Marcia Marcia were also in attendance at the 2023 Emmys.

On Monday, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” won its fifth award for Outstanding Reality Competition Program after losing the category to “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls” in 2022.

“We are so honored to have this award,” RuPaul said onstage. “Listen, you guys are just pure lovely for honoring our show and recognizing all these queens. We have released into the wild hundreds of drag queens and they’re beautiful. On behalf of all them, we thank you.”
