The Great Pottery Throw Down is one of our favourite craft TV shows, and now we are being treated to a Christmas special of the show ahead of the new series.

Judges Keith Brymer Jones and Rich Miller will be rejoined by presenter Siobhán McSweeney, as well as a host of famous faces, for the festive special of the pottery competition.

The festive special of the show will air on Christmas Day at 7.30pm on Channel 4.

Joining them at Gladstone Pottery in Stoke on Trent are four celebrities, all newbies at the pottery wheel: actor and TV presenter Joe Swash, radio and TV presenter Alice Levine, actor Hugh Dennis and comedian Sophie Duker.

The celebrities will be set two festive challenges: hand building a Christmas bird house and a surprise second challenge, during which the contestant take to the wheel to see who can make the most festive nibbles bowls. At the end of the show, of the four celebrities will be crowned winner of the competition.

The celebrities have each shared their thoughts about appearing on the show, which Throw Down shared on Instagram. Actor Hugh Dennis said: "It’s fun moulding a bit of clay. There is something very childlike about it, an element of play."

Actor and TV presenter Joe Swash was similarly enamoured, saying: "Being able to make something extraordinary from, basically, a lump of mud… that’s what I fell in love with."

Radio and TV presenter Alice Levine felt that time flew when she was in the studio. She said: “I genuinely don’t know what happened in that studio. You walk in, stand behind your bench, smile at Siobhán, give Rose a wave, then black out and it’s six hours later and you’re covered in clay.”

And comedian Sophie Duker found the whole experience very emotional. She said: "I didn't expect to be moved by clay, but the tears at the end – and not just from Keith – were really special."

We can't wait to watch the Christmas special of the show!
