Great British Bake Off viewers say 'ridiculous' after learning Dylan's age

The Great British Bake Off was back this week with the bakers having to take on a towering profiterole challenge. They also had to make a showstopping gateau that demonstrates the flair of the 1970s.

Viewers were left as shocked as host Alison Hammond when she asked baker Dylan Bachelet when he was born. When he answered "2004" she exclaimed "No!", before adding: "Oh my god, everyone is so young in here!"

Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their surprise as they realised Dylan was only 20 years old. One penned: "Dylan is in another league! And only 20?!? #GBBO”

The retail assistant from Buckinghamshire loves to travel and he spent a gap year travelling through Southeast Asia.

He is very proud of his mixed cultures - his mother is Indian and his father is Japanese–Belgian, and he loves experimenting with cultural fusions in his baking.

Away from baking, Dylan is an avid skateboarder and has a fascination for the way 90s computers and vintage cars were built.

His artistic mum taught him to love painting and he enjoys painting Japanese-inspired characters and cartoons on his t-shirts.

His presentation style is influenced by the beautiful Japanese bakes he tried on his travels, and through French pâtissérie chefs he follows on social media.

Dylan recently visited the second-youngest baker in the 2024 line-up, Sumayah, who is 19. The pair spent time at her university in Liverpool as well as in Lancaster.

He said on Instagram: "We set out with a quest to try some great bakeries and collect bread. We also went to Lancaster Castle. Once we got home, we got to baking.

"Sumayah's apple tree produces some of the best apples I've had. It was a great couple of days but I'm still here, kept hostage in Sumayah's cellar, with her abundant collection of 20+ year-old jams, they taste alright once you remove the mould."
