We're always on the lookout for new crochet techniques – and granny stripes are a great one to learn to improve your crochet skills.

There are so many beautiful crochet projects to make using granny stripes. It's a really easy technique to master, too, once you've learned the basics of how to crochet.

Granny stripes are very similar to a granny square, but rather than working in rounds, you work in straight lines, like in linen stitch or puff stitch.

Crafters across the world have been taking to social media to share their granny stripe creations. We've rounded up our favourites to inspire your next crochet project.

Happy crafting!

Beautiful borders

Using a granny stripe border is a great way to finish off a project – like @harrietsduck did in her blanket shared on Instagram.

This kind of border looks great against the granny squares – it ties the colours of the blanket together perfectly.

Burst of colour

We love granny stripes on sleeves – they add a bold pop of colour and really finish off the crochet jumper or cardigan.

These multi-coloured sleeves on @hobbii_yarn's cardigan on Instagram are so cheerful!

Cute cardigan

Why not work your granny stripes into a cute cardigan, like this one shared by @cornwallcrochet. The brightly coloured red and pink yarns work perfectly together, and we love the red rib around the collar and cuffs.

Stylish scarf

Granny stripes can be worked into a lovely scarf, as shown by @the_crofters on Instagram. The contrast white and navy yarns make this a seriously stylish crochet accessory!

The bobble stitch edging is the ideal finish for the project.

Bask in the blue

As well as bright colourways, granny stripes also work well in similar hues – like this blanket from @by_the_sea_crochet stitched in shades of blue. The colour combination gives a calming ombre effect.
