Grandma of 12 Breaks World Record by Doing 1,575 Push-Ups in an Hour: 'Had to Fight Back the Happy Tears'

A Canadian grandmother of 12 recently broke her second world record of the year — and this time, her incredible feat involved doing over 1,500 push-ups.
DonnaJean Wilde, 59, officially broke the world record for most push-ups in a single hour by a woman by completing 1,575 push-ups in just 60 minutes, according to Guinness World Records.
“I had to fight back the happy tears and emotions and keep going,” Wilde told record officials of surpassing the previous record with 17 minutes left to spare.
To make things even sweeter, 11 of her grandkids were there to cheer her on — and even honored her with a sign reading, “My grandma is officially amazing!”
In the first 20 minutes, Wilde was able to complete 620 push-ups, and after slowing things down, she eventually averaged 10 push-ups per rep for the remainder of the time.
Of course, in order for them to count, Wilde had to follow specific instructions. Each rep had to be performed at a "90-degree elbow flexion at the bottom of the push-up, with full extension of the arm when pushing up," according to Guinness World Records.

Wilde told Guinness World Records officials that she fell in love with push-ups while preparing to break the planking world record earlier this year — and did 500 a day to get in shape.
In March, Wilde earned the longest planking world record by a woman when she held the notoriously difficult position for an astonishing four hours, 30 minutes and 11 seconds.
Speaking with USA Today at the time, Wilde noted that health and fitness has always been part of her life.
“I've always loved sports and running,” she told the outlet at the time. “I love to run and work out … Fitness and health and nutrition was something that was really important in my family growing up.”

Speaking out after her latest record, Wilde shared her approach to getting older.
“I believe that if we stay active and have health and wellness goals, we can age gracefully and powerfully,” she said.
