Grammys 2025: Best and worst red carpet looks from this year's nominees: Beyoncé, Taylor Swift & more
Ahead of this year's Grammy's, we're looking back at the fashion hits and misses from some our favourite artists.
The 2025 Grammys are in two days, which is music to our ears. The 67th Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and stream live on Paramount+ and CBS at 8 p.m. EST. Trevor Noah will act as host for the fifth consecutive year and will include performances by Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Teddy Swims, Benson Boone and Shakira.
Leading the nominees this year is Beyoncé, whose country-inspired album Cowboy Carter earned total of 11 nominations. Following closely behind are Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish and Post Malone who eared seven nominations a piece, as well as Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, with six nominations each.
As we eagerly await this year's awards, we're celebrating this year's nominees the only way we know how: by looking back at their Grammys red carpet hits and misses. Keep scrolling to see the memorable — and sometimes cringe-worthy looks — from our favourite stars.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé is the most-decorated musician in Grammy history with an impressive 32 wins under her belt and is certainly no stranger to the Grammys red carpet. However, the star has yet to win the ultimate award, Album of the Year. Could this be the year she succeeds?
BEST: Custom Schiaparelli 2021
Beyoncé attended the 2021 wearing a custom off-the-shoulder leather minidress by Schiaparelli as she picked up four awards, including Best R&B Performance for her song "The Black Parade." The Italian fashion house crafted a look for the star that included elbow-length leather gloves with gold fingernails and bold earrings that encapsulate the brand's pension for surrealist design.
WORST: Stéphane Rolland in 2010
Beyoncé's café au lait coloured look at the 2010 Grammys is a forgettable look that reeks of the mid-aughts. From the zipper to the ribbed sleeves, it tries to blend sportswear with couture but looks like the red carpet equivalent of a wedge sneaker.
Taylor Swift
This weekend's Grammy's will be Swift's first red carpet since wrapping her record-breaking Eras Tour. The Tortured Poets Department singer is looking to break her own record with another Album of the Year win; she's won the award four times, more than any artist in Grammy history. Since Swift's red carpet looks feature easter eggs for fans, who knows what this year's red carpet ensemble will have in store!
BEST: Gucci in 2014
Swift may not have taken home any awards at the 2014 Grammys, but she won the red carpet with her gunmetal Gucci column dress. The then 24-year-old was transitioning away from her country roots sonically with her Red album and hit the red carpet in a look that paid homage to her fairytale style of the past with hints of what was to come: pop superstardom.
WORST: Schiaparelli at the 2024 Grammys
Swift's look at the 2024 Grammy's had serious potential — it just fell flat with styling. The Schiaparelli look combined with the velvet opera gloves was definitely an homage to the aesthetic of The Tortured Poets Department which had yet to be announced. However, the length of the dress, the ill fitting gloves and Swift's slightly messy hair didn't quite work to pull the look together.
Ariana Grande
Grande may have taken a foray into the film world with her Oscar-nominated role in Wicked, but she'll be back in pop star mode on Sunday at the Grammys. She's nominated for three awards for her latest album eternal sunshine, including Best Dance Pop Recording for her single, "yes, and?"
BEST: Giambattista Valli in 2020
Grande's show-stopping grey dress by Giambattista Valli was the talk of the red carpet at the 2020 Grammys. The look reportedly featured more than 400 yards of dove grey tulle to create the opulent skirt and took approximately 200 hours to create.
WORST: Ramona Keveza in 2016
Is this the worst Grammys look of all time? No. Is it too mature for a then 23-year-old Grande? Yes. The red Ramona Keveza featured a corset style bodice and flowing mermaid train that was definitely a red carpet worthy look — just out of place at the Grammys. Grande's infamous ponytail and excess eyeshadow clash with the gown, which might have been better suited for a Golden Globes or Emmys red carpet.
Cardi B
Cardi B is without a doubt one to watch at the Grammys and always brings glamour, personality and drama to the red carpet. The rapper is primed to make history this year: She could become the first solo female rapper to take home the award for Best Rap Performance if she wins for her song, "Enough (Miami)."
BEST: Guarav Gupta in 2023
The rapper hit the red carpet at the 2023 Grammys in an dramatic royal blue look by Indian designer Guarav Gupta. The dress featured an intricate satin bodice that flowed around her shoulders and head for a look that brought a much needed dose of high fashion glamour to the red carpet.
WORST: Ashi Studio in 2018
Cardi B's look at the 2018 Grammys was not terrible — it just didn't pack the same punch as her other outfits. The look was angelic and youthful, but the short hemline with the flowing train crossed into mullet dress territory and did little to make the rapper stand out from the crowd.
Miley Cyrus
Last year was a big year for Cyrus: the singer won two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit song. "Flowers." There's a good chance she'll be adding to her collection this year for her duet with Beyoncé. The pair are nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their song "II Most Wanted."
BEST: Mugler in 2019
Cyrus's look is always evolving, but her sleek Mugler look at the 2019 Grammy Awards is one of her most understated and memorable red carpet ensembles to date. The look could easily have been too safe for the red carpet, but Cyrus's plunging neckline, the oversized sleeves, cropped pants and sky-high stilettos gave this suit the perfect amount of edge for the Grammys.
WORST: Maison Margiela in 2024
It's still unclear what Cyrus was going for a the 2024 Grammys with this safety pin ensemble and '80s Thunderdome-inspired hair. The look was one of the most talked about ensembles of the night, but felt kitschy and like Cyrus purposely seeking attention rather than an authentic choice.
Lady Gaga
Gaga has 13 Grammy wins under her belt and is hoping to earn two more for her duet with Bruno Mars. The pair's song, "Die With a Smile" is nominated for Best Pop Duet/Group Performance and Song of the Year.
BEST: Armani Privé in 2010
Red carpet rules need not apply for Lady Gaga. For her first Grammys red carpet, the singer arrived in a celestial-inspired look by Armani Privé. The look was over-the-top, eccentric but crafted with painstaking detail. Gaga has wowed countless times on the Grammy red carpet, but the artistry of this look was out of this world and remains unparalleled.
WORST: Marc Jacobs in 2016
Gaga hit the red carpet in a David Bowie-inspired look by Marc Jacobs at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The singer was on-hand to pay tribute to the late performer, but the look ventured into cosplay territory and felt more like a Halloween costume than an homage.
Olivia Rodrigo
Rodrigo is nominated this year for Best Song Written For Visual Media for her song "Can't Catch Me Now" from movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. If she wins it'll be her fourth Grammy, an impressive achievement for 21-year-old singer.
BEST: Vintage Versace in 2024
Rodrigo looked like an old Hollywood film star at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The "Drivers License" singer oozed glamour in an ivory Valentino gown from the label's 1995 Spring/Summer collection that featured silver and pink crystals for a hint of sparkle.
WORST: Vivienne Westwood in 2023
In 2023, Rodrigo opted for a sheer black look by Vivienne Westwood that was chic — but didn't exactly capture much attention. The look was fairly understated and might have been better suited for a post-Grammys party or a pre-Grammys event.
Kacey Musgraves
Musgraves's album Deeper Well earned four nominations this year, including Best Country Album. The "Cardinal" singer has earned seven Grammy awards to date, including Album of the Year in 2019 for Golden Hour.
BEST: Valentino Haute Couture in 2019
Musgraves wore a stunning Valentino Haute Couture gown that featured a pleated tulle neckline and berry-coloured sash. The "Butterflies" singer opted for minimal accessories and understated hair for a look that was minimalist but timeless.
WORST: Valentino in 2023
The fashion gods giveth, and they taketh away. Musgraves was the epitome of Barbiecore at the 2023 Grammy awards in a pink bodysuit and feathered cape. While the look was certainly eye-catching, it was not the singer's best — or most memorable — red carpet offering..
SZA
SZA may have just made her feature film debut alongside Keke Palmer in the film One of Them Days, but she's going back to her roots for this year's Grammys. The "Kill Bill" singer is up for two awards this year: Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for her song "Saturn."
BEST: Atelier Versace in 2018
SZA wowed on the red carpet of the 2018 Grammy Awards in her ethereal white creation by Atelier Versace. The singer called the look a "dream dress" and although she went home empty-handed that night was one of the best dressed stars that year.
WORST: Unknown designer in 2016
It's hard to find a bad look on SZA, so we had to dig deep into the annals of Grammy red carpet history to her first red carpet appearance in 2016. The singer wore an understated patterned two piece patterned set with minimal makeup and jewellery but was on the verge of becoming a red carpet standout.
Kelsea Ballerini
Ballerini has been nominated for a Grammy five times, but is looking to secure her first win this year with her song "Cowboys Cry Too." The country singer and Noah Kahn's tune will go up against Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus as well as Post Malone and Morgan Wallen for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
BEST: Prabal Gurung in 2023
Ballerini stepped out of her fashion comfort zone with this colourful gown from Prabal Gurung. The "Penthouse" singer's previous Grammy looks were very understated, but she fully embraced the spotlight with this eye-catching canary yellow look with dramatic train.
WORST: Raissa Vanessa in 2022
To be fair, there's nothing wrong or off-putting about this strapless black gown with bow detail — it's just boring. While it could skew classic on a different red carpet, the Grammy's are a chance for artists to take a fashion risk and have some fun, and this dress didn't tick any of those boxes.
John Legend
Legend may have secured the coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), but he's still on the hunt for more Grammy awards. The "Nervous" singer is up for three Grammy awards this year, including Best Children's Music Album for "My Favourite Dream."
BEST: Yves Saint Laurent in 2024
Legend put a twist on the classic monochrome suit with a satin shirt that featured a low-knotted tie. The look was unexpected, stylish and a major fashion risk that paid off in spades!
WORST: Alexander McQueen in 2020
Sometimes fashion risks pay off and other times, they fall flat. Legend failed to hit the high note sin this morning coat-inspired suit by Alexander McQueen at the 2020 Grammys. Although the look was high fashion, we'd rather this silhouette stay across the pond.
