A new version of Gogglebox is in the works, with permission from Channel 4.

The channel has traditionally produced spin-offs of the popular reality format with Studio Lambert, but it has now announced it will forego its exclusivity of Gogglebox within the UK so a Welsh language version can be produced.

Gogglebocs Cymru will be made by Studio Lambert for S4C in Wales, and feature new families in the country commenting on local programming as well as international hits (via Wales Online).

Casting is currently underway for Welsh speakers both in Wales and across the UK, with S4C's Llinos Griffin-Williams announcing: "I am thrilled that Channel 4 has, for the first time, made an exception with one of their most valued formats, by agreeing to release exclusivity of Gogglebox in the UK to S4C.

"As two public service broadcasters, with a close and collaborative working relationship, we are delighted to be entrusted with such an important brand."

The first series of Gogglebocs Cymru is set to air on S4C this autumn.

Channel 4's version of Gogglebox has its own beloved Welsh cast members in married couple David and Shirley Griffiths, who have been mainstays on the show since 2015.

Studio Lambert has aired multiple spin-offs of Gogglebox on Channel 4 in the past, with the fourth series of Celebrity Gogglebox having just wrapped up last month.

New cast members for the latest series included Strictly Come Dancing duo Johannes Radebe and John Whaite, Drag Race UK's Bimini and Self Esteem, and Heartstopper cast members Kit Connor, Yasmin Finney, William Gao and Joe Locke.

Producers also made the adorable series Gogglesprogs, featuring the reactions of toddlers and youngsters, as well as Vlogglebox with teenagers and young adults reacting to popular viral videos.

Gogglebox airs on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
