GMB's Kate Garraway fights back tears as guest comforts her over loss of husband Derek Draper

During Thursday 13 June’s Good Morning Britain, Kate Garraway promised not to shed any tears as she shared a moving moment with television icon Anita Harris.

Anita, 82, honoured for her roles in Carry On films, was a guest on the ITV show, discussing the tribute song she has dedicated to her late spouse, Mike Margolis.

The song is also a show of support for Alzheimer's Research UK, serving as a reminder for those dealing with the grief and challenges of the disease that they do not face their trials alone.

Tragically, 12 months ago, Anita lost her husband Mike; whilst on the other hand, Kate, 57, also suffered the loss of her husband Derek Draper earlier this year.

A poignant moment ensued when Anita comforted Kate saying: "How precious this moment is to see you after seeing you go through everything and darling, Ed, you're wonderful for all the viewers."

"But for me, I was a bit parallel with you [Kate] darling, but we're not here to, we're here to bring joy" added Anita, to which Kate replied: "We're not going to cry, we're not going to cry, are we? We're not going to cry because we want hope."

At the end of the chat, both ladies exchanged another warm moment with Anita wishing well, particularly for Kate's children, stating: "I hope everything's good for you and the young ones".

Sadly, in January, Kate announced the passing of her husband at the age of 56 after suffering long-lasting symptoms from coronavirus. In May Kate celebrated her birthday, marking yet another 'first' for the Good Morning Britain presenter without her hubby.

The popular TV presenter celebrated her 57th birthday on Saturday, 4 May, marking her first birthday since Derek's death. The mother of two took to social media to share a video of herself surrounded by friends and family showering her with gifts.

In her Instagram caption, Kate shared with her followers: "Well yesterday was another one of those sad 1st's - my first birthday since Derek's passing."

She continued: "Woke up feeling so sad and thought well I can either cry all day or celebrate life as he did so well. And thanks to wonderful friends it worked! See you on @ gmb tomorrow from 6 - happy bank holiday weekend everyone!"
