Gloria Vanderbilt death: Fashion designer, socialite and mother of Anderson Cooper dies, aged 95

American fashion designer, author and socialite Gloria Venderbilt has died aged 95.

Vanderbilt’s son, television host Anderson Cooper confirmed the news in an on-air eulogy on Monday morning on CNN.

“Gloria Vanderbilt was an extraordinary woman who loved life and lived it on her own terms,” he said.

"What an extraordinary life. What an extraordinary mum. What an incredible woman."

Over the years, Vanderbilt was romantically linked to several high-profile individuals including Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Howard Hughes, and Roald Dahl.

Born in February 1924 as the only child of railroad heir Reginald Vanderbilt and his second wife Gloria Morgan, the heiress to the Vanderbilt fortune went onto become an artist, author, and fashion designer.
