What is the ‘Girl Dinner’ trend, and why is it satisfying? A nutritionist breaks it down

TikTokers are running away from crockpot dinners and 30-minute meals and are instead choosing to eat the trending “Girl Dinner.”

The girl dinner is a meal that is based on combining several snacks and a cornucopia of finger foods in order to make a full plate. The concept began to go viral after Olivia Maher (@liviemaher) posted a video of her eating bread, cheese, grapes, apples and small pickles.

Her post currently has over 1.2 million views, while the hashtag #girldinner has over 8 million views. TikTokers are posting their mix-and-match plates to the audio.

Recently, Alea Laura (@avocadale) posted a video of her dinner and received over 1.5 million views. Of the people who watched the video, one of them was a nutritionist named Katherine Kofoed (@katherinekofoed). She stitched Laura’s video and explained that although it just looks like snacks, the “Girl Dinner” is actually nutritious and satisfying.

She said that when people are normally planning meals, they wonder if they have protein, healthy fats, vegetables, etc. However, there is a trait that we normally don’t think of, but it gets addressed with the girl dinner.

“We are very rarely thinking about our five different senses of taste and making sure that all of our satiety needs are being satisfied in meals,” Kofoed said.

According to her, people normally forget to address the texture and combinations of flavors in the meal. Also, this trend is a great way to satisfy personal cravings.

“Having a girl dinner, which is basically a smorgasbord of all your favorite things, is a really great way to satisfy all of those needs.”

Fans of the girl dinner took to her comments to talk about how much they love this trend, as many of them have been eating this way for a while.

“I’ve being doing this with bowls filled with random foods I love without even realising,” replied @lilnoorty. “Definitely feel more satisfied, physically &emotionally.”

“When i have girl dinner, i am so nicely full. like perfectly fed and not bloated. girl dinner is everything,” replied @crocodilefan83.

With the girl dinner taking off as a popular meal structure and a nutritionist singing its praises, expect to see a lot of snacks and small items on the virtual dinner table.
