London Fashion Week never draws in quite as many celebrities as New York Fashion Week. But we’ve been doing pretty well so far this season with the front rows packed with the likes of Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof and Fearne Cotton.
However, the game changed this evening when models-of-the-minute Bella and Gigi Hadid showed up at Versace’s VERSUS show. The Italian brand, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, has shown in Paris for the last few seasons, but Donatella made the decision to bring her SS17 show to London - much to our delight. The show played out without the leadership of Anthony Vaccerllo, following his appointment as Hedi Slimane’s successor at Saint Laurent. But was a huge hit regardless.

There had been some buzz about whether Gigi, who models for Versace, and her younger sister Bella would make an appearance at LFW’s most hotly-anticipated show, and the rumours turned out to be true. With one sister on the catwalk (Bella) and one sister on the front row (Gigi), the duo effortlessly stole the show.
Gigi’s beau, former One Direction star Zayn Malik, was also in attendance and supported both the British fashion industry and his girlfriend’s baby sister in one fell swoop like a true gent. Other A-listers spotted on the FROW included US model Winnie Harlow.

But what of the fashion? The SS17 collection bared all the markers of classic Versace (slashes, zips, studs, mesh and metallics) while simultaneously ticking off almost every single trend of the moment, including military, utility and athleisure. Pops of orange brightened up the array of all-black ensembles and biker boots gave the whole show one very grungy feel.
“This is about everything real. It’s about how the Versus Versace generation live their lives, and the wardrobe that gives them power,” Donatella wrote in the show notes.
