Today the Queen turns 90. And to celebrate, the royal family has released a selection of stunning photographs of her Majesty - including a beautiful snapshot of the great lady herself surrounded by her seven great-grandchildren.

Captured by photographer-to-the-stars Annie Leibovitz (whose images have graced the cover of US Vogue countless times), the picture shows her Maj cuddling up to Charlotte, while George stands on one side of her and Mia Tindall (Zara and Mike’s daughter) casually holds her great-grandmother’s handbag on her other side.

The lovely image was taken last month in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, and said to be a “lovely jolly affair” and “very relaxed” - although we’re not sure how true that is as attempting to get seven young children to sit still and smile for a world-famous photograph can’t have been an easy feat.

Nevertheless, the end result, we think you’ll agree, is ultra sweet and each child looks spotless. George is rocking yet another design by a Spanish childrenswear designer (the Duchess of Cambridge does have a penchant for brands from the country, after all).

The three-year-old is wearing a cardigan from Fina Ejerique - the same brand that he wore for his family’s Christmas card photo last year. Kate teamed her son’s knit with a white polo neck, burgundy shorts, his usual knee-high socks and shoes from Startrite.

George’s adorable cardigan has already sold out, but the brand offers lots of other similar, traditional, pieces for kids.

Charlotte, now 11-months-old, looks adorable in a pale pink get-up. In the photo she’s wearing a flowered dress by Spanish boutique m+h (which costs just £21 and was a gift from her nanny, Maria Borrallo), a pair of £11 tights from Amaia and a knitted cardigan.

It’s tough to see, but it looks like the youngest royal is playing with a plastic toy horse.
