Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones to star in new Netflix show Run Away
Netflix's latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Missing You, has been making the streaming service's most-watched list since its launch on New Year's Day. Following the hit show's success, and that of last year's Fool Me Once, the platform has announced that the next series in its five-year deal with Coben will be based on the author's 2019 novel, Run Away.
Here's what we know so far about the upcoming show...
Run Away: Release date
Netflix made the announcement that a new Coben series is on the way with an Instagram post on 21 January. Captioning a picture of the writer with the series lead, James Nesbitt, Netflix said: "We are excited for our next Harlan Coben runaway hit, Run Away, starring James Nesbitt, Minnie Driver, Ruth Jones and Alfred Enoch. Coming soon, only on Netflix."
While a release date is yet to be confirmed, we do know that filming begins this month in Manchester and the north west. There could be a while to wait, but there are nine other Coben adaptations to catch up on before Run Away drops on Netflix, including Missing You and Fool Me Once, plus Safe, Stay Close and The Stranger.
Run Away: Plot
The eight-episode series will follow a dad, Simon, who encounters deep family secrets as he attempts to save his daughter, Paige, when she runs away from home. "Run Away is about family – about what we will do to keep our family intact, what secrets we keep within our family, and what secrets we keep as a family," Coben told Netflix's Tudum. "Every time you walk past the house, there’s a whole universe that goes on behind that door and none of us have a clue what it is."
Run Away: Cast
Run Away's cast includes James Nesbitt as Simon Greene, Minnie Driver as Simon's wife Ingrid Greene, Ruth Jones as Elena Ravenscroft and Alfred Enoch as Isaac Fagbenle.
Coben will serve as executive producer for the latest series but fans of his TV adaptations should note that Richard Armitage, the actor who has starred in Fool Me Once, Missing You and more of the author's thrillers, will not be returning for Run Away.
