Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones has given an insight into her relationship with co-star James Corden as she joked that there was one thing she couldn't bear.

Chatting on a recent episode of the Table Manners podcast with hosts Jessie and Lennie Ware, Ruth shared details of what is expected to be the final episode of Gavin & Stacey.

When asked whether their popular characters Nessa and Smithy could be set for a spin-off show of their own, James dropped a hint that is sure to get fans excited as he responded: "We don't know if we have another idea in us but I can honestly say that if we didn't attempt to try and even explore the idea of writing together then I'd be so disappointed."

Meanwhile, his co-star Ruth joked as she said "I couldn't bear it," before adding: "I love being in the room with James, it's so fun."

Superstar James Corden dropped a huge hint as to what fans can expect from the show's finale next week, as he paid a compliment to his co-star: "It's one of the best pieces of acting what Ruth did with that character. Nessa has had this unbelievable checkered life and you find out more about that in this special — some really fun bits that we wrote."

The last time that we saw the writing duo on screen was during the highly emotional and award-winning moment that Nessa confessed her love for Smithy before getting down on one knee to propose, and speaking about that moment to Jessie and Lennie, she said: "The reason I feel it's so emotional is because me and James have been on this journey for a long time.

She added: "We've known each other since 2000 doing Fat Friends and because Gavin and Stacey has been such a massive part of our lives and that was going to be the last episode — we filmed that scene in the middle of night as we were filming during summertime but it was set at Christmas so it had to be dark."

Gavin and Stacey: The Finale will air at 9pm on Christmas Day on BBC One.
