Gavin & Stacey's Jason shares fishing trip video secrets after footage sends fans into a frenzy
Gavin & Stacey fans had their first ever glimpse at Uncle Bryn and Jason's infamous fishing trip during the Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell documentary which aired on New Year's Day. The documentary dropped previously unseen footage of the pair on the fishing trip which has been a long-running joke in the sitcom and now Robert Wilfort, who plays Jason, has shared some secrets behind the never-before-seen clip.
While the all important question of whether Smithy and Nessa would end up together was answered in the Christmas Day finale which drew in over 12 million viewers, those hoping that the fishing trip mystery would finally be solved were left waiting. However, in a gift to fans, the special documentary ended with some hand-held camera footage of the trip which offered first look at the fateful day which has become an iconic part of the series.
In the clip, Bryn is heard saying "who do we have here?" before the camera pans to Jason holding a fish. Bryn is also heard saying "no one will go hungry in this camp tonight," before the screen fades to black as he says: "Enjoy your soup!" The soup on the fire is one of the key bits of info we know about the fishing trip as well as it being very cold, and, whatever happened "wasn't illegal."

Now Robert Wilfort has revealed that the footage of the fishing trip was actually filmed over a decade ago, for the last episode of series three. Posting a photo of Bryn and Jason, with their era-appropriate hairdo, at the fateful fishing trip to Instagram, he said: "There was a scene where I find Bryn watching video footage of the trip. But you still don't see what happened! The scene got cut because the episode was running too long. It's great that some of it has seen the light of day."
Uncle Bryn and Jason have kept the details about the trip a secret, with Dave Coaches being the only character who knows what truly happened. There has been many occasion where the pair are about to open up about the infamous day, but they are usually interrupted by another member of the family, so the footage is the closest fans have come to finding out what truly happened.
It seems that Ruth Corden and James Corden were always going to keep the secret of the fishing trip a mystery but the easter egg has left fans thrilled. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter
