Gavin and Stacey is on track to treat fans to a highly anticipated Christmas present, as the comedy's festive special has started filming.

The BBC shared an image of a clapperboard from the first day on set, with the caption: "The final episode of Gavin & Stacey started filming today. Truth be told, we’re a little bit excited."

Following the acclaimed 2019 episode that ended on a huge cliffhanger for Smithy (James Corden) and Nessa (Ruth Jones), the BBC series will return for one more episode later this year.

Meanwhile, its stars are reuniting on set, with Rob Brydon, who plays Uncle Bryn, posting a picture with co-creator of the show Jones.

"Something's occurring..." Brydon captioned the Instagram selfie and used the hashtag for Gavin and Stacey.

Corden, who created the show alongside Jones, also took to Instagram to share a snap from set and confirm filming on the special is under way.

"Day 1. Here we go x," the actor and presenter wrote.

In May, Corden announced he and Jones had finished writing the script for the special by sharing a black-and-white snap on Instagram.

"Some news… It's official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey," Corden captioned a selfie of him and Jones holding the script.

"See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James."

Gavin & Stacey series 1-3 are available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The Gavin and Stacey 2024 Christmas Special will air on Christmas Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
