Many take DNA tests to find out more about their ancestry. While some want to learn about where they hail from in the world, others hope to get more insight into genetic health conditions.

These tests can be very illuminating – but you may find out something you didn't want to know. And that's what happened to one dad, who secretly swabbed his son.

He found himself in the awful situation after his wife of five years admitted to buying unfaithful. He couldn't shake the feeling of doubt about the paternity of their three-year-old son – so took action.

In a now-deleted Reddit post, the dad said he had a paternity test done on his son behind his wife's back to confirm or deny his suspicions and was horrified by what he found – his son isn't biologically his.

He said: "I didn't ask [my wife] for a paternity test because I knew she'd flip out, so I did it in secret. When the results came back, my worst fear was confirmed: he wasn’t mine. I was shattered.

"I confronted my wife again, showing her the DNA results. Instead of apologizing or even trying to explain, she completely lost it. She called me a monster for 'violating her trust' and accused me of being the reason our marriage was falling apart. According to her, if I had just 'trusted' her, none of this would've happened. She even had the audacity to claim that my 'coldness' over the years had pushed her into another man's arms."

Feeling "speechless" by the revelation, he asked Redditors what to do. While some of his loved ones told him to "let it go", he didn't know if he could get past the hurdle.

He added: "How am I supposed to move past this when my wife refuses to take any accountability and instead blames me for everything? I love my son, but I feel like my entire marriage was a lie."

Thankfully, people were quick to offer their words of support. One person said: "Just move on. You don't deserve a cheater in your life. Someone will come into your life that will appreciate you." And another added: "You know your marriage is done. You now have to think if you want to stay in the child's life."
