Get the Garmin Forerunner 255 for Less than £200 in the Amazon Prime Day Sale
I’ve tested pretty much every Garmin running watch that has launched over the last few years. The Garmin Forerunner 255 is by far one of my favourites and the one I recommend the most to other runners.
If you’re starting to take your running more seriously and you’re worried cheaper Garmin watches like the Forerunner 55 will feel a bit too basic, the 255 is the one to look at instead. The newer Forerunner 265 is on the scene, but it's essentially just the Forerunner 255 with a colour screen for a lot more money.
If you can live without the latest version (and I think most people will) the 255 is a fantastic multisports watch that can track more than just your runs and will also let you dig deeper into your training stats.
While the usual price for the Forerunner 255 sits just under the £300 mark, the tidal blue version of the Forerunner 255 is currently on sale for just £179.99 on Amazon as part of its Prime Day deals event. If I was buying a running watch, I’d absolutely be snapping this one up.
I’ve tested the Garmin Forerunner 255s (pictured), which is essentially the 255 with a smaller case and with some differences in battery performances. The feature set, though, remains the same across the two watches.
While this is the larger of the two, it’s still one that sits pretty dainty on your wrist, so if you don’t like the idea of strapping on a hulking running watch, you don’t need to worry about that here. It doesn’t have a colour display or a touchscreen like the newer Forerunner 265, but what you do get is a screen that will always be nicely visible in brighter outdoor light.
It’s suitable for swimming for both the pool and open water kind, and with an added triathlon mode it’s an attractive option for anyone looking for an affordable triathlon watch. On the running front, Garmin has included its new multi-band mode, which improves outdoor tracking accuracy when near tall buildings or in deeply forested areas. Using it means sacrificing a bit more of the battery, but it does deliver on that promised accuracy boost.
In the morning it provides a report to help you make better decisions about what to do with your day and can also provide an insight into your recovery needs through HRV status scores.
If you want a smartwatch, it can be that too. There’s Garmin Pay to unlock contactless payments and it has the ability to control music on your phone. This model doesn’t however include the built-in music player also available as a feature on the models of the Forerunner 255.
It can muster up to 14 days of battery life and 30 hours of GPS tracking, which drops to 16 hours in the more accurate GPS mode.
