‘The Garfield Movie’ Trailer: Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson Voice Father-Son Cat Tale

Ever wonder where Garfield the cat came from? How he met his “owner” Jon Arbuckle? How pizza entered the picture? A new trailer for Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment’s The Garfield Movie can help.

Directed by Mark Dindal from a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove and David Reynolds, The Garfield Movie stars Chris Pratt, voicing the title character, and Samuel L. Jackson voicing his long-lost father, a streetwise feline named Vic.

The official synopsis: Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure. After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vi – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.

Also in the cast are Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang. Producing are John Cohen, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Steven P. Wegner, Craig Sost, Namit Malhotra and Crosby Clyse. Exec producing are Jim Davis, Bridget McMeel, David Reynolds, Scott Parish, Carl Rogers, Simon Hedges, Chris Pflug, Louis Koo, Steve Sarowitz, Justin Baldoni and Peter Luo.

Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights from the creator of the Garfield comic series and brand, Jim Davis, who is among the executive producers. DNEG Animation animated the film, with Alcon Entertainment, DNEG, One Cool Group and Wayfarer Studios financing it and Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures distributing globally (excluding China).

The Garfield Movie will arrive in theaters May 24, 2024.
