'Game Of Thrones' Fans Think Jaime Lannister Will Return In The Series Finale. He Shouldn't.
In the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones Jaime Lannister died with his twin sister/lover in his arms as the Red Keep collapsed on top of them. It was a lazy, although fitting ending, to these characters who came into this world together and left it together. It even-slightly-fit with the popular Valonqar theory. His hands were kind of around her neck right?
But, even though there's no logical way he could survive that fall, fans are convinced that Jaime Lannister will crawl out of the rubble of the keep in Episode Six. The theory-which has gotten some pick up around the internet-is based on conjecture about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's social media, and the editorial strategy of EW's Game of Thrones Maester James Hibberd.
Now, I understand why fans would believe this theory. No one who is dead stays dead on Game of Thrones. At this point, it's become something of a joke that characters will die and come back through various means. The writers have gotten into a lazy rhythm to shock fans then reverse these deaths. In fact, Jaime was seemingly dead when he was attacked by Drogon in Season Seven then abruptly returned in the next goddamn episode.
So, it's not at all beyond the writers to just fucking bring Jaime back once again. Why not? It's not like they're really trying anymore.
But Jaime Lannister should not come back in the final episode of Game of Thrones. As disappointing as it was, the Game of Thrones writers gave him the only death that makes sense. He died with Cersei in his arms. It was the only way that he should go. That was the end to his character arc. Even though it was boring it was right.
To have him crawl out of the rubble with or without her would be absolutely absurd. The sad thing is that I wouldn't put it past these writers to do exactly that. Logic be dammed.
