This fresh pink mani is Victoria Beckham’s latest signature look 💅
If you’re looking for an easy way to elevate your nails without intricate nail designs or tricky colours, then ‘soap nails’ are the perfect accessory to wear now. A fresh, squeaky-clean mani that looks like it's just surfaced from a soapy shower or bubble bath. Victoria Beckham, whose style aesthetic always leans towards polished and chic, is already a fan!
Nail expert and ORLY ambassador Lou Stokes explains the signature of any soap mani is the unique “semi-sheer, neutral coverage” that emulates that clean, fresh and glossy feeling! It’s the fanciful equivalent of the ‘no makeup, makeup’ trend.
“The creamy milky tones or sheer pink shades complement all skin tones, making them universally flattering,” explains Lou.
What are the best nail shapes to carry off the soap mani?
Clean, natural shapes work best - think short to medium-length nails with rounded or almond shapes. “These shapes enhance the polished, squeaky-clean aesthetic while keeping the overall vibe timeless and wearable,” says Lou.
The key is maintaining a balance, nothing too harsh or edgy, as the softness of the trend pairs beautifully with smooth, rounded silhouettes.
How do I get the soap manicure at home?
Prep
The secret to achieving the look is all in the prep - less is more but healthy is everything! Nail care is key to any manicure and achieving this look is no different, with Lou saying “Glossy, well-groomed nails give a luxurious squeaky-clean look”.
Start with a quick swipe of nail varnish remover to rid nails of natural oils and remaining old polish. Then trim your nails using a sharp clipper and tidy the shape with a nail file. Remember to always file in one direction to not split and weaken your nails.
Choose a pastel-nude shade
Start by painting your nails with a base coat. Then, Lou says “Look for a sheer pink or nude shade that compliments your skin tone”.
A glossy rose pink will work perfectly to achieve that clean, fresh aesthetic. If pink isn’t your vibe, powdery pastel colours, like mint green, lavender and muted yellow work just as well. Apply thin layers until the natural nail bed cannot be seen.
Finish with a glossy top-coat
Finish with a high-shine topcoat with a gel-like finish to create an almost wet look - the real key to where soap nails lie. This will also provide long-lasting protection and a brilliant shine.
