Former GMB star leaves GB News and shares cryptic tweet just months after joining
Pip Tomson, who left Good Morning Britain in 2023 to join GB News, has now announced she has quit the news channel.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter on Sunday 28 April, Pip announced the news to her followers. In a cryptic message, she wrote: “**UPDATE FROM ME** I have left GB News. I will decompress now [and] map out life’s next crazy adventures.”
She also shared a clip showing her hosting the GB News breakfast show with Michael Portillo.
Pip began her career as a print journalist before joining ITV News Central in the West Midlands in 2002, and later worked on the ITV breakfast show Daybreak and as a reporter for Sky News.
She returned to ITV in 2013 as a news correspondent on Good Morning Britain and worked there for 10 years. When it was announced live on air that she was leaving the show, Pip was reduced to tears when talking about the presenters and crew she referred to as “family.”
Once she had arrived at GB News, Pip wrote: “Here I am. A presenter and journalist – now at GB News – who’s relishing the opportunity to challenge and hold to account the powerful types and offer a voice to those who want to be heard but are thoroughly disillusioned so don’t bother to engage.I want to help change that and redress the balance, without fear or favour. I’m a people person which is why I became a journalist in the first place.”
She added: “I was also well aware of the flak directed at GB News. Much of it from those types to profess that they’re tolerant members of the ‘Be Kind’ brigade (yawn) but are actually some of the most intolerant people you could ever hope to meet if you don’t profess to share their views.
“I sought out the advice of some of the less tribal folk including one of the most famous broadcasters in the business. I don’t want to name them but they’ve always been incredibly generous in terms of advice, feedback, reflections on the industry and how to deal with those delightful social media trolls.
“‘It’s a no brainer,’ came the answer. ‘You’ve got to do it. It’s very exciting for you and a proper adventure.’”
While Pip has not revealed the next step in her career following her departure from GB News, fans have sent their best wishes for the future.
One wrote: “Good luck in whatever you’re gonna do or wherever you’re going Pip,” while another commented: “Rest well Pip, wishing you all the best for whatever comes next.”
Another fan added: “Oh no! They have lost another star, Pip. What on earth are @GBNEWS doing, that they are haemorrhaging their brightest talent in this way,” and a fourth said: “Please come back to @itv [and] @GMB Pip.”
