Flower-Shaped Sustainable Community Will Provide 'Net Zero' Lifestyle For Kuwait’s 100,000 Population

Designers have unveiled plans for a sustainable flower-shaped city in Kuwait. Dubbed XZERO, the planned sustainable community has been designed to reduce car access and provide a net zero carbon lifestyle for 100,000 residents. Dubai developer URB said that the 1,600-hectare development, located in the country’s southern region will include 30,000 homes and create 30,000 environmentally friendly jobs in sectors such as medicine, tourism, technology, education, retail and entertainment. Hospitality assets designed to promote sustainable tourism include a five-star eco resort and eco lodges. There are also plans for a nature-conservation center, a utility park, a mosque, a wellness center, a nursery and a school. More than 65 per cent of the 6-square-mile (16-square-kilometre) area is given to open spaces such as productive landscapes for farming, non-productive landscapes, permeable pavements that allow rainwater to flow through them, sports fields and courtyards. The city also provides 22 miles (35 km) of dedicated running and cycling tracks as well as 6 miles (9 km) of equestrian track which connects to an equestrian centre. Building eco-cities comes within the strategy of the Kuwait National Development Plan towards Sustainable Development Goals and Kuwait Vision 2035 enabling the next generation of sustainable cities for a green circular economy.
