Florence Pugh IS Marilyn Monroe with these short bombshell curls

Florence Pugh makes a lot of red-carpet headlines for her impeccable style and of course, her valiant commitment to freeing the nipple. We're in awe. But if we bring our eyes up a foot or so, we're usually treated to some pretty out-there, needle-pushing, creative hairstyles too. From the burnt orange buzzcut to complex fans and concertinas of hair, and even Billy Idol tributes; Flo likes to really lean into the unexpected and experimental.

That's why if we say Florence Pugh is channelling Marilyn Monroe... chances are there's a twist. Which is exactly what we got from the look Florence wore to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Governors Awards on Tuesday night.

Created by celebrity stylist Adir Abergel – who styles for the likes of Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway and swathes of other A-listers – Flo's peroxide blonde hair was all about the soft Marilyn bombshell curls on the right... but on the left featured some trademark Florence spikes and chaos. It's the hybrid we never knew we needed.

The old Hollywood style is perfectly in keeping with the hyper-feminine pink embellished gown, with its flowers and sparkles and snatched waist. But that spikey edge gives it that little kick it needs to feel authentically Florence and decidedly cool. Now, who said pink sequins weren't cool?

We can't ignore the part the beat played in this slay either. Makeup artist Alex Babsky delivered using the foundations of a classic vintage glam – the red lip, the winged liner – but darkened and smudged them just enough to also give that slight rough edge to the sweetest candy floss diamond.

Forgive me for getting poetic but beauty has this effect on me.
