Flight attendant suspended after filming herself eating leftover in-flight meal
A female member of cabin crew on an Urumqi Air flight has been suspended after she filmed herself eating from a row of leftover in-flight meal trays.
The clip was filmed 45 minutes after the flight landed at China’s Yinchuan Airport on 30 November, reports guancha.cn.
The domestic airline issued a statement on 7 December after the video was uploaded to Weibo, China’s twitter-esque social media platform.
The statement said: “We confirmed that the air hostess shown in the video to be one of our employees at Urumqi Air. The flight attendant had been handling the leftovers accordingly and had seriously violated our company's regulations.”
The flight attendant uploaded the video for “entertaining purposes” but has been suspended while a full investigation is conducted by her employers.
Urumqi said that its policy was to recycle any uneaten food from flights.
It is not the first time a flight attendant has come under fire for mishandling passengers’ food and drink.
A video showing an Emirates flight attendant pouring a glass of champagne back into the bottle caused a stir after it was posted online in July.
The footage was recorded by Russian passenger Yevgeny Kaymov who secretly filmed the incident on a business class flight to Dubai.
He posted the video to his Instagram account, tagging the airline in his caption. Kaymov wrote: “I accidentally filmed this video, and didn't even notice this moment at the time, pouring unfinished champagne back into the bottle.
“Is that normal practice Emirates?”
The film appears to show a tray of untouched glasses of champagne. The carrier offers the sparkling wine to first and business class passengers after they board the aircraft.
Emirates told The Independent: “Emirates always strives to provide the top quality service. Actions recorded on this video do not comply with our quality standards. We are currently investigating the incident.”
