Gastronomes should look elsewhere. While Flaine has a number of good value restaurants serving reasonable food to a largely family clientele, there’s little in the way of haute cuisine. This is a resort which has more apartment accommodation than hotels and largely geared towards self-caterers who prefer to eat in.

La Pente à Jules

Near the Almandine and Faust pistes, La Pente à Jules has a self-service snack bar with good‑value food such as burgers, sausages, kebabs and chips. On sunny days it attracts big crowds being entertained by a resident DJ. There’s also a pricier and fancier table service section.

La Luge à Téran

Near the bottom of the Gouilles chair above Samoëns, La Luge à Téran (+33 6 85 80 77 00) is housed in a traditional wooden chalet. Portions are generous and for a real blowout try the Chamois Platter, with a whole baked Vacherin cheese, charcuterie, potatoes and salad. The juicy wild mushroom omelette and home‑made tarts are delicious. Booking essential.

Les Servages d’Armelle

In Les Carroz, Les Servages d’Armelle is the place to go for a pricey gourmet lunch. The dining room has a log fireplace for snowy days and a terrace with stunning views for sunny ones.
