Five Rules For Smart Shopping

Retail therapy can be relaxing, fun and exciting but what happens if you’re on a budget or looking for something special? Here are five golden rules to stick by on any shopping trip…

1. Do you really love it or will it just do for now?

When buying investment pieces, it’s important to choose the right item and spending a lot of money on something that is just ‘okay’ is a bad move in the long run. Instead, wait a while, the right thing will appear in the end and you (and your bank balance) will be a lot happier for it!

2. Will it actually be worn?

When buying an item of clothing, think of at least five outfits that can be worn with it to ensure it won’t stay sitting in the wardrobe for years to come.

3. Try it on

The thought of stressful, crowded and sweaty fitting rooms put many people off but it’s usually much more bother to go back and return the item if it’s not right and doesn’t fit properly. Even if you know your size in the store, the cut might not be the same for other things.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Assistants are there to assist you and will help you find what you are looking for, swap sizes and match items. If shopping for a particularly special outfit, many large stores offer a free personal shopping experience with larger fitting rooms and expert advice.

5. Online shopping?

Tuesday’s are apparently the best day to snap up a bargain. Enjoy your lunch hour by treating yourself to the summer dress you’ve had your eye on for the past few weeks!
