First look at Ryan Gosling as Ken in Margot Robbie's Barbie movie
We have our first photo of Ryan Gosling as Ken in Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie film – and he's had quite the transformation.
The image, shared on the official Warner Bros Twitter account on June 15, reveals Gosling with a new bleach blonde hairdo, double denim ensemble and an impressive amount of fake tan. Frankly, he looks like he's ready to head into the Love Island villa any minute.
Gosling, who will be joining Margot Robbie as the famous plastic power couple, is part of Barbie's all-star cast.
Will Ferrell will be joining as the CEO of a toy company, while Sex Education's Emma Mackey, America Ferrera, Michael Cera and Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon also star in the movie.
Gosling and Robbie won't be the only Barbie and Ken either. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa will star other Ken's and Hari Nef and Issa Rae will play other Barbies.
The film will be directed by the Oscar-nominated Gerwig and the script has been written by Marriage Story filmmaker and Gerwig's real life partner Noah Baumbach.
One part of Barbie pop-culture that won't be appearing in the film though is Aqua's famous song 'Barbie Girl'. The iconic anthem, which has immortalised Barbie beyond being a child's toy, has been left out of the film.
Ulrich Møller-Jørgensen, manager of Aqua lead singer Lene Nystrøm, confirmed the news to Variety, saying: "The song will not be used in the movie."
Despite the track's fame it didn't go down well with Mattel, with the brand worrying that the provocative lyrics would be harmful to Barbie's image – even going as far as once filing a lawsuit against the Danish band.
Barbie will be released in cinemas on 21 July, 2023.
