Mary & George, an upcoming queer period drama, has just released the first-look images of Julianne Moore in character.

In this dramatic retelling of real-life British history, the actress plays Mary Villiers, a ruthless woman who used multiple avenues to rise to the height of English society — including bribing politicians and working with criminals.

But what this drama is really focused on is how he pushed her son George to become the lover of King James I (of England, aka James VI of Scotland), which led to him becoming the Duke of Buckingham, holding considerable power in court and leading some disastrous foreign campaigns.

Rounding out the cast are Mark O'Halloran (Brassic) as Sir Francis Bacon, Nicola Walker (The Split, Marriage) and Adrian Rawlins (Harry Potter's James Potter) as husband-and-wife Mary Hatton and Sir Edward Cooke, Trine Dyrholm (Queen of Hearts) as Queen Anne and Simon Russell Beale (Thor: Love and Thunder) as George's father, Sir George Villiers.

Meanwhile, playwright and Killing Eve scribe DC Moore has penned the script from Benjamin Woolley's book The King's Assassin.

Galitzine has another big project in the pipeline, starring opposite Anne Hathaway in a role inspired by Harry Styles in the movie The Idea of You.

The plot focuses on a divorced mother who gets over her husband leaving her for a younger woman by starting a whirlwind romance with a boyband member.

Mary & George will premiere on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW soon. We'll update you with a release date once we know more.
