First look at Graham & Brown's Colour and Design of the Year 2025
It's that time of year again: the colour predictions for 2025 have begun and first up is Graham & Brown, who has announced a warm, grounding brown as the must-have shade to decorate with next year.
• Colour of the Year 2025
Chosen as the 2025 'it' colour, Elderton (which takes its name from the humble elder tree), is described as the perfect neutral-toned brown to reconnect us to nature.
Earlier this year we championed chocolate brown – in what has largely been an underrated shade in interiors – as our new go-to neutral. Timeless and charming in equal measure, you can use brown for colour drenching, or on a ceiling for a warming, cocooning room, or even paired with a delicate neutral to lift a space.
'Elderton is a chameleon colour that can be sophisticated yet cosy depending on the mood of the space it is in,' says Paula Taylor, head stylist and trend specialist at Graham & Brown. 'It will add drama to contemporary colours by creating a theatrical backdrop, allowing them to shine through. Our homes are spaces where we can be our most honest and creative selves and Elderton is the perfect hue to unleash the potential of any room.'
• Design of the Year 2025
Elderton has been created to partner with and ground Graham & Brown's Design of the Year for 2025, Rivington Folly in 'Dusk'.
Rivington Folly is available as a wallpaper, custom wall mural, made-to-measure curtains and roman blinds, and is an ode to Graham & Brown’s Lancastrian heritage.
With a strong architectural component, the design has taken inspiration from Rivington Terraced Gardens, locally known as the lost garden. Heavily influenced by the historical nature of Rivington’s skyline, the design is full of ancient trees, drawing up through the landscape and enveloping the space, creating depth and texture. Meanwhile, ancient columns and archways provide a visually striking element.
A one-off bespoke work of art, Rivington Folly has been designed as a backdrop to display cherished items, and partnered with Elderton, it will envelop a space, creating a cocoon of creativity.
'Elderton is the perfect colour partner for Rivington Folly, as it is an inviting and stable colour that creates a welcoming partnership between all of natures shades, from sage to terracotta,' adds Paula.
