We've been given a teaser look at 'And Just Like That' season three
Last year, the second season of Sex And The City spin-off And Just Like That... cemented the show's place as one of the most divisive of all time. Whether you loved or loathed the reappearance of Aidan, the Jane Austen cosplay routines, and the appearance of a vibrator called the 'Widow Wand', it was impossible to escape the antics of Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (and, for a minute and 10 seconds, Samantha Jones in a glorious cameo).
AJLT will return for a third season, and filming has already started in New York. Given that season two was one of HBO Max's most popular shows (and the most-watched returning Max Original to date), it's no surprise that the gang are returning for another outing.
Here's what we know about the third season so far.
Is there a trailer for AJLT season three?
We're still a fair way off before AJLT hits our screens, but we have been given the smallest tease of what to expect after HBO released their trailer of upcoming shows in 2025.
In the briefest of brief clips, we see Miranda sipping on a cocktail, an impeccably dressed Carrie on the streets of Manhattan, and Charlotte laughing alongside Carrie at a bar.
Who will star in AJLT season three?
The lead characters of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) will return to stomping the streets of Manhattan in their Manolos. They'll be joined by some of the wider supporting cast we've got to know and love from season two, including Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley, Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, and – after the last season's cliffhanger ending – John Corbett as Aidan Shaw. Cathy Ang and Alexa Swinton, who play Charlotte's children Lily and Rock, will also be returning.
Recently, the show's official costume department gave us a sneak peek behind the scenes of season three, showing off the glam AJLT dressing room (complete with hot-pink sofa) as a location for Sarita Choudhury's fittings, and posting a picture of Cynthia Nixon celebrating her birthday, while taking part in fittings for Miranda.
There's also been some exciting new additions to the main cast. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell confirmed that she’d be joining the ensemble for the next instalment, sharing a photo of her episode one script on Instagram. The image revealed the title of the series opener (“Outlook Good”), and that the actor would be playing a character called Mary.
Elsewhere, Logan Marshall-Green, who previously starred in The OC, Law & Order's Mehcad Brooks, and Jonathan Cake, a Desperate Housewives alum, have also all been confirmed to join the cast, with their roles not yet known.
And it looks like love is (potentially) in the air for Miranda: Dolly Wells, who plays Joy, is set to now become a series regular.
Two prominent figures have confirmed that they won't be returning: Karen Pittman as Dr Nya Wallace, and Sara Ramírez as Che Diaz. Pittman won't be able to participate due to a scheduling conflict with a new role she has in Netflix's Forever, as well as The Morning Show on AppleTV+.
"It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That…," said a spokesperson for Max. "As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others. Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn't possible. Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of season 3 of And Just Like That… Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavours."
It was confirmed earlier this year that Sara Ramírez will not be returning as Che Diaz for season three, but Max has not commented on their departure.
When will season three be released?
In December 2023, a Max teaser for upcoming content revealed the next season of AJLT won't arrive until 2025 – news that was confirmed by Variety.
Filming is already well underway, as Cynthia Nixon has wrapped up her run in The Seven Year Disappear play, and Sarah Jessica Parker has finished her stint in Plaza Suite. The actress missed the recent Olivier Awards (for which she was nominated for Best Actress for Plaza Suite) and her reps confirmed that she couldn't attend due to tight filming schedules for AJLT. She's since been spotted filming the first scenes in New York City, alongside Alexa Swinton and Cathy Ang, as well as Mario Cantone and Sebastian Pigazzi.
Do we know anything about the plot?
The end of season two left us with plenty of unanswered questions. Just after Carrie rekindled her relationship with her ex-fiancé, Aidan, he told her that he needed at least five years out to focus on his children – meaning Carrie might be single again at the start of the next season, unless there's a serious time jump.
However, new pictures have suggested that Carrie will have a new love interest in her life. Photographs surfaced in early July of Parker filming a romantic restaurant scene with actor Jonathan Cake.
Max, meanwhile, has been tight-lipped about any new plotlines. "We are thrilled to spend more time in the Sex And The City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these amazing actors," said creator and showrunner, Michael Patrick King. When it comes to what's next, it looks like we'll just have to wait and see...
