Sausage rolls are the perfect snack for a picnic, but since it’s the festive season, they’ll need a Christmas make over. For the perfect little pick-me-up full of classic cranberry sauce and stuffing, one content creator shared their take on the snack.

TikTok star The Foodie Parent dolled up a traditional sausage roll recipe with added bacon (reminiscent of pigs in blankets), cranberry sauce and stuffing. In a video of November, he said: “These festive sausage rolls will fill you with Christmas cheer.”

To accompany the festive sausage rolls, the Foodie Parent whipped up some gravy - or you can use any you have leftover from your Christmas dinner. He continued: “Perfect as part of a meal with mash, roasts, or simply dipped in a bowl of gravy.”

The video has been viewed over 2.4million times, at the time of writing. It received hundreds of comments, offering up praise for the festive snack and their own suggestions.

One person suggested: “I would do it with caramelised chutney instead as I don’t like cranberry.”

Catherine said: “As soon as I saw this video, I went to Asda and bought everything and it is so easy to make. It was delicious.”

Adcro simply wrote: “Oh my god yes,” while Phoebe agreed: “THIS IS GOING TO BE A DEFINITE CHRISTMAS BAKE FOR ME.”

So to spice up your regular sausage rolls with a festive twist, this is what you’ll need to do.

Festive Sausage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 320g pre-rolled puff pastry

  • 450g pork sausage meat

  • 8-9 streaky bacon rashers

  • 200g cranberry sauce

  • 170g stuffing

  • 1 large egg

  • Dried thyme

Method

Prepare the stuffing and remove the sausage meat from the skins if using pre made sausages. Start by rolling out the pastry sheet keeping the paper underneath.

Evenly spread cranberry sauce leaving about 2cm free either side. Layer the bacon on top of the cranberry.

Then spoon on and spread the stuffing evenly on top of the bacon. On one side of the pastry, line the sausage meat end to end. Egg wash the sides.

Then using the paper, lift and gently fold the pastry over the sausage until the two egg washed sides meet. Seal the edge all the way along with a fork.

Then carefully cut into equal pieces and place on grease proof paper on an oven tray. Egg wash each roll all over.

Add a sprinkle of dried thyme on top of each. Then place in a preheated oven at 180℃ (Fan) for 35 to 40 minutes. Once cooked enjoy straight away, or leave to cool and eat later.
