Fendi SS25 Brought the Roaring ‘20s Back to the Runway
We're halfway through fashion month and with New York and London Fashion Week over, we're now onto Milan and Paris. One of the first to show at Milan Fashion Week was Fendi, which showed its womenswear Spring/Summer 2025 collection this Tuesday. The luxury fashion house did so by celebrating its 100 years and highlighting all the women who played a significant role in its centennial milestone.
Inspired by '20s style which is also the era Fendi was founded, artistic director, Kim Jones says in a press release, "The foundations of how women dress today and in many ways, how we think are in the 1920s. It's about modernity in style and attitude. There's modernism in dress, design, decoration and thought. We approached the collection with these things in mind, as an amalgam of epochs, moods and techniques -- then and now."
The SS25 collection brings together ready-to-wear and couture in the world of '20s Fendi. Picture classic cocktail dress silhouettes, Great Gatsby inspiration, fringed mini-dresses, simple silk slips embroidered with super detailed and handmade sequins, soft suedes, and shearlings.
One of our fave pieces includes the opening look -- a single mesh layer dress embezzled with black and grey sequins mimicking the classic Fendi logo with art deco motifs. The fringe details at the hem nod to flapper styles, reimagined in a sleek, minimalist way while extended sheer panels add movement and lengthen the silhouette.
This was also the debut of the Red Wing and Fendi collab, showing off the luxury house's take on the American workwear brand's most famous piece: the "Heritage Moc Toe Boot." These sturdy lace-up boots gave the delicate dress a rugged, utilitarian contrast, furnishing the look with an unexpected twist. Why? Because in the words of Kim Jones revealed in a press release, "These boots are made for real women." This ensemble captures the spirit of '20s elegance, reinterpreted for the present day.
"Quality is the number one point besides the beauty of design," says artistic director of accessories and menswear, Silvia Venturini Fendi in a press release. "I am always thinking between fashion and time -- quality is the defining feature. It is the timeless testament to what has been achieved in our hundred-year history. As the founder of Fendi, it was also my grandmother Adele's obsession, both personally and professionally -- quality."
