Simone Ashley On 'Bridgerton' Season Four

Simone Ashley is in the middle of filming season four of Bridgerton, which sees Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha take the lead as Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek, respectively. What is she most excited for fans to see in the new series? 'Yerin and Luke. I'm so excited to see Yerin be introduced into the show and I'm so excited to see them take it in their stride,' she tells ELLE UK in a game of Ask Me Anything.

Having starred alongside the likes of Jonathan Bailey and Nicola Coughlan in the Netflix period drama for the past four years, Ashley says returning to the set feels like 'coming home' and reveals what her and her cast mates get up to when the cameras aren't rolling. 'We just have a laugh and we're really good at playing games,' she says.

It's not just Bridgerton, in which Ashley plays the affable Kate Sharma, that Ashley's been working on. She's also been starring in and executive producing a new romantic-comedy, Picture This. How would she describe it? 'Chaotic, friendship, love and family,' she says.

'It was important to me that this was a movie that celebrated culture instead of making fun of it,' she shares during a chat at The Londoner Hotel. Serving as a first-time executive producer on the film, Ashley discusses the importance of its South Asian-inspired plot: 'I wanted to humanise the character so it's a universal movie that anyone can watch, but also for the Indian community to watch and feel like they belong in the world of a rom-com.'

In the heartfelt flick, Ashley plays struggling photographer, Pia, who receives a prediction of true love and career success awaiting her in the next five dates she goes on. With her sister's wedding looming and family playing matchmaker, her ex (played by After's Hero Fiennes-Tiffin) soon reappears, throwing both her love and professional life into chaos.

An avid rom-com fan, Ashley cites films like Bend It Like Beckham and Bridget Jones as inspiration for Picture This, as well as Nineties classics such as My Best Friend's Wedding and He's Just Not That Into You. 'I always wanted to be a part of that world. It was really important for me to do a movie like this,' she adds.
