Presenter Fearne Cotton has opened up about the brutality of working in television after revealing she has been replaced as a host before - and not even been told.

During an interview Fearne revealed just how tough the entertainment industry can be, even for someone who began their television career in 1996.

While talking to The Sunday Times Fearne revealed: "I’ve been sacked and not told I’ve been sacked. You just turn the telly on and someone else is doing your job."

She added: "It’s all a big game. You’ve got the Monopoly board out and you’re moving around [trying to] dodge the danger."

Since then, Fearne has gone one to host The Xtra Factor and been a team captain on Keith Lemon’s Celebrity Juice alongside Holly Willoughby.

Fearne has also joined Celebrity Gogglebox with fashion icon Gok Wan and presented the first series of Interior Design Masters before it was taken over by Alan Carr.

Fearne continued to add that the industry had taken a toll on her mental health over the years.

And believes it had a bigger impact because she started her career in the public eye at such a young age.

The star added: "There’s no way you can get through it in one piece … All my mental health lows are because of my job. Nothing else.”

Recently, Fearne posted that she'd been spending time with family and friends in New York. The took to Instagram at the beginning of June to share photos of her recent trip with husband Jesse James Wood, and their daughter, Honey Krissy Wood.

Along with snaps of the three of them exploring the city, Fearne wrote: “I used to feel discombobulated working in NYC in my twenties. Its grid streets and high octane energy used to spin me out,” she wrote as a caption to the photos.

“These days I love to dive into its chaos and soak up its electric buzz. This was a special trip for the whole Wood clan. Magical memory making which I’m so grateful for.”

She continued: “I have eaten way too many fries and need to revert back to saying ‘lift’ instead of ‘elevator’, as well as quickly getting over the jet lag as I have a very exciting podcast to record tomorrow. Big love to you all x.”
