Titanic's iconic front deck kiss involving Jack and Rose has been voted cinema's best ever according to a new survey.

Fans forgave the cheesy "I'm flying" line to put Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's lovelorn characters' tender smooch at the top spot, just beating classic kisses from Lady and the Tramp's spaghetti-eating pooches, and Ghost's Sam and Molly.

Han Solo and Princess Leia's special moment in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back also featured in the poll of 50 greatest movie kisses.

The survey completed by 2,000 UK adults was commissioned by TLC ahead of its new TV launch Love at First Kiss.

"Kisses are such a big part of movies so it's fascinating to see which ones have had the biggest impact," a spokesperson for TLC said.

"For many people, their first experience of a 'proper' kiss is likely to have been seeing one on screen.

"So perhaps respondents had a sense of nostalgia when it came to voting for their favourites."

In third place came Pretty Woman's enigmatic fire escape snog, followed by the passionate smooch at the end of Dirty Dancing, and Bridget Jones's uplifting snowy clinch between Bridget and Mark.

The top ten also included Mary Jane and Peter Parker's famous upside down kiss, Breakfast at Tiffany's rain-soaked lip service and Gone with the Wind's iconic moment between Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara.

It was also revealed that romantic films are the chosen favourite for a date by 30 per cent of the British public - just not for the first one.

Love at First Kiss airs on TLC on Wednesday (January 11) at 9pm.
