Family Guy And The Simpsons Crossover Pokes Fun At Their Longtime Rivalry
Much-loved Fox animations Family Guy and The Simpsons finally crossed-over last night as the latter's Season 13 premiere saw the Griffin's wind up in Springfield and taken in by the town's most famous family, but it seems their meeting didn't come without its fall outs.
Sunday night's highly-promoted premiere has already made headlines after Stewie and Bart controversially made a prank phonecall to Moe's Tavern, and told the bartender that his sister was being raped. While very-near-the-mark humour is commonplace on Family Guy, the joke was just one of many inside jokes that Fox used to mock the rivalry between the two shows in last night's animation mash-up.
The lives of the two family's first collide when Peter starts drawing a cartoon for the local newspaper, which sees Griffin and the rest of his family run out of town after it takes a misogynistic turn. Their journey soon sees the family end up in Springfield after their car is stolen, and The Simpsons welcome them into their home. The meeting between Peter and Homer first seems like a pleasant one as they bond over doughnuts and beer but the pair soon engage in a huge fight. Meanwhile, Stewie is infatuated with Bart; Lisa tries to help Meg find a talent; Chris steals Maggie's dummy; and Brian instantly takes a disliking to the family's real dog, Santa's Little Helper.

The cross-over saw the Family Guy writers mock everything from the show's lack of Emmys to cross-overs in general. In the opening scene, which sees the Griffins sitting down and watching a Modern Family/ All in the Family crossover, Chris says: “Yay! A crossover always brings out the best in each show,” Chris says. “It certainly doesn’t smack of desperation. The priorities are always creative and not driven by marketing or — ”
“Okay, that’s enough,” Stewie interrupts.
Another scene sees Peter engage in an epic fight with Homer, who proceeds to start throwing The Simpsons countless Emmy awards at Griffin, who replies: "Hey, that's no fair! I don't got none of them."
The crossover also highlighted claims that the show's steal material from one another, the fact that The Simpsons isn't as funny as it used to be, Seth MacFarlane's The Cleveland Show getting knocked for Bob's Burgers and that the rivalry between the two shows is real, but ultimately as peaceful as a rivalry can be.
