Exclusive: A Provençal Manor House Just Listed for $19 Million
You’d never guess that this dreamy French manor house used to be a former farmhouse—and that’s the point.
The stately villa, just outside the picturesque city of Aix-en-Provence, was refashioned by acclaimed husband-and-wife team Bruno and Dominique Lafourcade. It has now hit the market with Savills and Knight Frank for €17.75 million (or roughly $19.1 million). The architect duo is best known for their exquisite landscaping projects, which is why the present owners tapped them to create the 60-acre spread’s extensive gardens too.

“The current owners, alongside Lafourcade Architects, have created a truly exceptional estate,” Jonathan Hewlett, chairman of Savills Private Office, told Robb Report. “What makes it particularly special is the amount of accommodation, which includes a principal house—Le Bastide—a guest house, a guardian’s house, as well as an additional house—Le Bastidon.”
The palatial property, dubbed Domaine de Bajolle, is anchored by Le Bastide, the 6,458-square-foot main house that includes six en suite bedrooms, several reception areas, and tons of sun-drenched terraces so you can admire the grounds. Here, you’ll also find a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a vegetable garden. Adjacent but separate from the main residence is Le Bastidon, a 2,572-square-foot guest home with four en suite bedrooms along with an outdoor kitchen.
“The gardens are exquisitely designed by Dominique Lafourcade and feature a newly planted olive grove and a maze, which will, no doubt, keep the children entertained for hours,” added Hewlett. “There are fabulous views of Mont Sainte-Victoire, famously painted by Paul Cézanne, who lived in Aix-en-Provence.”
When it came time to remodel, the goal was to reimagine the abode as a “bastide Aixoise”—a traditional Provençal-style manor commonly found in villages throughout the south of France. Oftentimes, the dwellings are surrounded by lush gardens, and internally, they feature soaring, high ceilings and local stone as an homage to the area’s rich architectural heritage.
“It is rare to find an estate of this quality and charm, with gorgeous land that could just as easily grow vines as olives and those iconic far-reaching views back towards Mont Sainte-Victoire,” Edward de Mallet Morgan, head of international super-prime sales at Knight Frank, told Robb Report.
