EXCLUSIVE: Lebanese-Mexican Artist Sami Hayek Debuts New Tableware

HIGH FREQUENCY: Sami Hayek, the well-known Mexican multidisciplinary artist, has infused his flair into Italian porcelain maker Ginori 1735 tableware. On Thursday, Hayek Studio said the dinnerware set was inspired by Hayek’s exhibition “Frequency,” which kicked off at Christie’s Los Angeles in 2023 and explored the power of the transformative 528 Hz frequency known for harmonizing spaces and promoting wellness.

The four-piece collection was made with Kering-owned Ginori 1735’s artisanal craftsmanship. Hayek has also made tableware in the past, a 10-piece fine porcelain dinnerware set with visual artist Eduardo Sarabia.

Hayek is the brother of actress Salma Hayek, who is also the wife of Kering chief executive officer François-Henri Pinault.

Hayek’s creations were splashed onto the Corona collection of plates, recognizable for their delicate handmade gold thread frames fashioned with the iconic Antico Doccia silhouette which was first created in 1740 by Marquis Carlo Andrea Ginori, the firm’s founder.

“Through this collection, I wanted to create objects that hold attention and emanate it back to the person experiencing them,” said Hayek. “With Ginori, we’ve been able to transform the patterns that inspired ‘Frequency’ into tangible designs that promote connection and beauty into everyday moments.”

The “Frequency” exhibit was on show at Dubai Design Week 2024 until last week. It was the first time Hayek’s work had been displayed in the region.

The four-piece set retails for $725 and is available for purchase through the Hayek Studio website.
