Almost a decade since we last welcomed Bridget Jones to our screens, filming for the fourth film in the Bridget Jones' Diary series has begun – and we can't wait...

The fourth film in the British romantic comedy series will be called Bridget Jones' Diary: Mad About The Boy, and is expected to be based on the novel of the same title by Helen Fielding.

Bridget Jones' Diary 4: Cast

Fans can expect to see Renée Zellweger back in her iconic role as Bridget, with Hugh Grant returning to the series as Daniel Cleaver. It's unconfirmed whether Colin Firth will return to the film in any capacity as Mark Darcy, although fans will see Emma Thompson reprise her role as Dr Rawlings. Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones will also return as Bridget's parents, Colin and Pamela.

Bridget Jones' Diary will welcome lots of new faces to the fourth film too, including Leo Woodall of The White Lotus and One Day fame, and 12 Years A Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor. Isla Fisher, Josette Simon and Nico Parker are also set to join the cast.

Bridget Jones' Diary 4: Plot

While it's believed the fourth Bridget Jones' Diary film will be based on the 2013 book of the same name, Bridget Jones' Diary: Mad About The Boy, it's unknown how much of the plot will be taken from the book.

The creators have been tight-lipped so far on what we can expect from the fourth film, but if the book is anything to go by this movie will see Bridget as a single parent, exploring the world of online dating with a man 28 years her junior.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in May 2024, Hugh Grant revealed that he thinks the script for the fourth Bridget Jones' Diary is the best one yet.

"I think the script for the fourth Bridget is the best one of the four," he said. "In fact, it's one of the best scripts I've read for a long time... It's very sad as well as very funny." He went on to say it will be based on the book, and will explore Bridget bringing up two children alone, "all mixed with Bridget Jones' comedy".

Bridget Jones' Diary 4: Trailer

With filming for Bridget Jones' Diary: Mad About The Boy still underway, there hasn't been a trailer released just yet. Although fans have been given a sneak peek into the fourth film after images of Renée Zellweger during filming were posted online and shared across social media. The photos show Renée with two children dressed in school uniforms, who fans expect will be the actors playing Bridget and Mark's kids in the film.

Bridget Jones' Diary 4: Release Date

While the UK release date of Bridget Jones' Diary: Mad About The Boy is yet to be announced, the film is expected to land in early 2025 with 14 February (Valentine's Day) thought to be the likely US release date.
